    Job Description

    The Multicultural Learning Center (MLC) is seeking to hire School-Based Therapists to support the mental health needs of students at a consortium of high-quality public charter schools in the Los Angeles community serving students grades TK-12. This unique opportunity is being funded by a grant project in collaboration with California State University, Northridge, and the University of Southern California. At the end of the grant project, candidates will be provided opportunities for employment at one of the consortium schools or another public charter school in our Los Angeles Charter School network.

    As a School-Based Therapist, you'll provide therapeutic and case-management services, including conducting mental health assessments and implementing individual behavioral plans. You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and school leadership to ensure the success of youth and families in a public-school setting. To support a career in school-based counselling, you will participate in professional development including social thinking, trauma informed practices, and threat assessment.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate effectively with an inter-disciplinary team to implement behavioral and therapeutic services for students in need of intervention.
    • Implement research-based interventions aligned with the three tiers of the MTSS pyramid, including individual, group, and family therapy as well as case management for identified students.
    • Provide coaching and professional development to support school staff in experiencing success with all students.
    • Engage caregivers in the educational process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs and support school teams in providing parent workshops.
    • Consult school staff on safety assessments, mental health crises, and accessing social services.
    • Document interventions and provide necessary reports on student progress.
    • Participate in regular supervision to enhance practice.
    • Support school-wide social emotional and mental health initiatives
    • Engage in school-wide decision making and strategic planning
    • Attend all required meetings, including IEP’s or Student Success Team meetings as necessary
    • Attend professional development workshops as part of the grant project.
    • Be open to inquiry, collaboration, and giving and receiving feedback
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy from UCLA, USC or CSUN
    • Experience working with youth in mental health or educational settings
    • Desire to work in school-based settings and grow within an organization
    • Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency a plus

    Schedule

    • Full-time, school-based schedule (Mon - Fri) potentially across more than one school site in the consortium
    • Schedule will follow School Instructional Calendar, August – June annually, approximately 185 scheduled workdays per year.

    Benefits

    • Salary range is $63,000-$73,000 per year with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
