    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time cook to prepare nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate meals for children in our childcare center. The cook will work closely with the staff to ensure a safe and clean kitchen environment and will be responsible for meal planning, food preparation, and maintaining dietary standards for children with special needs or allergies. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation and a passion for helping foster healthy eating habits in young children.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Prepare daily meals and snacks for children, ensuring they meet nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions.

    • Plan menus in collaboration with the center’s management, considering seasonal ingredients, cultural preferences, and children’s needs.

    • Follow proper food safety protocols, including sanitizing kitchen surfaces, storing food at appropriate temperatures, and handling food safely.

    • Manage food inventory, including ordering supplies, storing ingredients, and tracking expiration dates. Includes responsibility for shopping for groceries needed from local food stores or bulk warehouses.

    • Ensure that all meals are prepared in a timely manner, and that serving sizes are appropriate for children of different age groups.

    • Accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions, ensuring meals are safe and inclusive for all children.

    • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

    • Communicate effectively with staff about meal plans, allergies, and food-related concerns.

    • Assist in any other tasks related to food preparation or childcare as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Previous experience in cooking or food preparation, ideally in a childcare, school, or institutional setting.

    • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

    • Ability to create simple, nutritious, and tasty meals for young children.

    • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

    • Experience with dietary restrictions or allergies is a plus.

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.

    • Must pass a background check and child abuse clearance. Must be fingerprinted and meet all DCA requirements for health & safety training.
