About the Position A highly skilled Scrum Master/Business Analyst to facilitate and champion the Scrum process and provide business analysis expertise across various software development projects. This role works closely with Product Owners, development teams, and stakeholders to ensure adherence to Agile principles, alignment with technical and architectural standards, and successful project delivery. The SM/BA will serve as a key liaison to clarify requirements, gather feedback from stakeholders, and translate business needs into actionable user stories.
Essential Functions/Competencies
Essential Functions This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Facilitate Daily Scrum Activities
Plan, schedule, and conduct daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
Ensure effective timeboxing and adherence to Scrum ceremony objectives.
Guide Product Owners
Assist in defining, refining, and prioritizing the product backlog.
Help maintain clarity of backlog items and ensure alignment with project objectives and technical/architectural standards.
Promote Agile Mindset and Continuous Improvement
Coach team members on Agile/Scrum principles, fostering a culture of self-organization and accountability.
Identify, document, and act upon lessons learned through retrospectives to enhance team productivity and quality.
Remove Impediments and Drive Efficiency
Identify and resolve obstacles that hinder the team’s progress, escalating when necessary.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution of dependencies or blockers.
Ensure Alignment with Technical and Architectural Standards
Collaborate with the Director of Enterprise Applications to understand and implement organizational technology guidelines.
Monitor compliance with agreed-upon architectural and coding practices within sprint activities.
Stakeholder Communication and Transparency
Provide clear status updates, sprint metrics, and progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.
Maintain transparency through tools (e.g., Kanban boards, burndown charts) and regular communication.
Support Collaboration and Conflict Resolution
Encourage open dialogue, facilitate conflict resolution, and build strong team dynamics. Foster a collaborative environment across different functional areas and teams.
Bridging Technical & Business Gap
Clarify requirements, gather feedback from stakeholders, and translate business needs into actionable user stories.
Duties as Assigned
Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Director of Enterprise Applications or executive management.
Adapt to evolving business needs and Agile best practices.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
3+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master or in a similar Agile role, preferably within a software development environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Scrum framework and other Agile methodologies.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CSM, PSM) are a plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for managing stakeholders and facilitating team discussions.
Problem-solving and organizational skills to effectively remove impediments and prioritize tasks.
Experience in coaching and mentoring teams on Agile best practices and principles.
Familiarity with technical project lifecycles and knowledge of software development processes (SDLC) is highly beneficial.
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
Experience with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps) preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, however the employee may be asked to mentor and teach more junior IT team members.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, shredding and fax machines.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform duties consistent with a typical office environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days Monday through Friday, working between hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during business days, although occasional out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected based on individuals job responsibilities.
