Seafood Plant General Manager
Our client, a major fishing and seafood processing company, is seeking a Seafood Plant General Manager for their Oxnard, CA area facility. This position demands a balance of leadership, operational expertise, financial oversight, and strong relationship management with internal and external stakeholders. The selected individual will oversee all aspects of plant operations, including production, quality control, supply chain management, staffing, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement. This position will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the facility meets production goals, adheres to industry standards, and operates in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food production, management, and seafood processing, with a proven track record of driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management: Direct plant operations, manage staffing, ensure policy implementation, and maintain a positive culture.
- Production Management: Ensure timely, cost-effective production, manage quality control, and coordinate with supply chain teams.
- Financial Management: Develop and manage plant budgets, analyze costs, and monitor KPIs to improve efficiency.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance: Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and labor laws, enforce safety protocols, and maintain certifications.
- Quality Assurance: Improve quality systems, address customer complaints, and maintain strong relationships with vessel owners for quality and volume targets.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead process optimization, waste reduction, and sustainability efforts, and stay informed about industry advancements.
- Customer & Vendor Relations: Collaborate with the sales team to meet customer needs, manage unloading programs, and expand the fishing fleet harvest area.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in seafood processing, food manufacturing, or a related industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial or senior leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale production operations, including team leadership, cost management, and process optimization.
- Strong knowledge of seafood processing techniques, industry regulations, and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, FDA, USDA).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing P&L, budgets, and KPIs.
- Ability to drive operational improvements and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Proficient in the use of production management software, MS Office Suite, and ERP systems.
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Fisheries-related field.
- HACCP Certification.
- Food Safety Manager Certification.
- Experience with sustainability practices and environmental compliance.
