Position: Secretary, Public Defender's Office
Description: This position requires a person who will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the St. Joseph County Public Defender’s Office. This person will work closely with and under the supervision of the Department Chief, Deputy Chief and Department Administrator.
Responsibilities:
Organizing and Filing: Maintain and update legal case files, ensuring they are properly organized and easily accessible
Correspondence: Prepare and manage legal correspondence, including letters, emails, and memos
Document Preparation: Type and format legal documents, motions, and other court filings
Office Equipment: Operate office equipment, including computers, printers, and copiers
Communication: Provide both verbal and written communication support to attorneys and public defense clients
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Previous experience in a legal or administrative setting is preferred.
Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and excellent communication skills; working knowledge of St. Joseph County e-filing systems and governmental operations is preferred.
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background investigation.
