Job Description:
A private Orange County family seeks a kind, warm and engaging, reliable, and adaptable Nanny to care for their three children (toddler to elementary-aged). This is a full-time, live-out position with an ideal schedule of a Monday-Friday split shift schedule, roughly Monday-Thursday: 7:00am-9:00am and 2:00pm-7:00pm, and Friday: 7:00am-9:00am and 2:00pm-10:00pm, with required flexibility for schedules to shift depending on the parents’ schedules, providing a full day of childcare when a child is home from school, traveling with the family, and working occasional weekends and overnights for extenuating circumstances. The family is open to a conversation about creating a non-split shift afternoon to late evening schedule as long as the candidate is flexible on days where there is a scheduling need outside of the afternoon/evening hours. This position also requires flexibility to sleep over on occasion when principals are rarely away from home. The family is looking for a patient, organized, and detail-oriented long-term Nanny who will be able to assist with the ever-changing needs of the family as the children grow. The ideal candidate will be calm, adaptable in their approach to childcare, and a team player with a learner’s mentality and an interest in education. Along with primary childcare responsibilities, the candidate should be attentive to the needs of their child with allergies.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the daily care, nurturing, and supervision of the family’s three children (elementary and toddler aged)
- Assist principal with the children’s morning routine to ensure they are ready for the day ahead
- School drop off and pick up
- Candidate must seek to create an inspiring, educational, caring, and safe atmosphere for the children
- Create and engage in age-appropriate developmental after school and recreational activities (i.e., sports, board games, art/crafts, etc.) and avoid time wasting activities
- Coordinate activities and accompanying the children to and from all engagements (appointments, classes, activities, etc.)
- Strive to develop nurturing and trusting relationships with the children
- Demonstrate and teach the children how to play and work together nicely and how to take responsibility for their actions
- Willingness to learn and adapt to the changing needs of the children and family
- Provide support aligned with the parents approach to raising their children, modify personal approach to childcare as directed, and follow directions well to meet specific expectations related to how the children are to be raised and cared for
- Prepare packed lunches, snacks, and healthy family-style dinners for the children
- Assist with bath time and bedtime routines
- Clean and tidy up after the children including pitching in with children’s laundry and cleaning up kitchen after meal times
- Run occasional errands as needed
- Maintain the cleanliness of the family car including tidying, washing, and vacuuming
- Additional Nanny responsibilities as needed and requested by the principals
Requirements:
- Fluent in English; exceptional listening and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent references required from both current and previous employers
- 4-year degree from an accredited College or University REQUIRED; background in childhood education, psychology, or relevant field is a plus but not required
- Experience working with children with high functioning autism spectrum disorder and ABA Therapy is a STRONG PLUS
- Minimum 3+ years related experience working in a similar position(s) with a private family
- Knowledge of general First Aid and CPR certification
- Physically agile, energetic, adaptable in approach to childcare, and lively; able to keep up with active children
- Poised and professional; use of utmost discretion and confidentiality at all times
- Reliable and able to work both independently and as a part of a team
- Must be able to adapt to the changing needs of the family and adhere to guidelines set by parents
- Confident swimmer is required; able to supervise children in water activities
- Able to prepare healthy meals and snacks for the children
- Must listen, take direction well, and demonstrate follow through
- Must be vaccinated and willing to follow COVID-protection protocol
- Must work with a no job is too big or too small mindset and willingness to jump in where needed to assist
- Valid Driver’s License REQUIRED; confident driver with zero points on record, has their own vehicle, and comfortable driving their family car when transporting children
- Valid Passport and ability and willingness to occassionally travel with family
- Authorized to work within the United States
