    ABOUT OUR CLIENT

    Our client is a respected nonprofit organization based in Oakland that has been serving the community for over 20 years. Their mission-driven work focuses on creating positive social impact through various community programs and initiatives. They are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their finance team and help support their continued growth and financial stability.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting grant compliance, and ensuring sound financial practices. This position reports to the CFO and works collaboratively with program directors and the leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who is passionate about nonprofit work and wants to contribute to meaningful community initiatives.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
    • Oversee grant accounting, including tracking restricted funds, preparing financial reports for funders, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements
    • Prepare and analyze budget to actual financial reports for management and program directors
    • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
    • Assist with annual budget preparation and monitoring
    • Support the annual audit process and tax filings
    • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures
    • Reconcile bank and investment accounts monthly
    • Process semi-monthly payroll and maintain related records
    • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
    • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to leadership

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 4+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in nonprofit accounting
    • Demonstrated experience with general ledger management and financial reporting
    • Proven experience with grant accounting and restricted fund management
    • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and GAAP
    • Proficiency with accounting software (Abila MIP would be great!)
    • Experience with budget development and monitoring
    • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
    • Strong organizational and time management abilities
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • CPA certification or in progress
    • Experience with federal and state grant compliance requirements
    • Knowledge of nonprofit tax reporting requirements
    • Experience with fund accounting software
    • Familiarity with Oakland/Bay Area nonprofit sector

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    • Salary range: $85,000 - $105,000, depending on experience
