The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing complex accounting functions requiring professional knowledge of accounting principles and practices. This position will oversee interdepartmental transactions, accounts payable and receivable operations, and collaborate with various departments on budget reviews. The ideal candidate will have experience with Tyler Munis ERP software and demonstrated expertise in year-end closing procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and coordinate interdepartmental transactions, ensuring proper allocation and documentation
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Review and approve accounts payable batches, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures
- Collaborate with department heads to review budgets, provide financial guidance, and assist with financial planning
- Manage the year-end closing process with emphasis on accounts payable operations
- Prepare, review, and analyze complex financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded
- Develop and implement accounting procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Train staff on accounting systems, procedures, and best practices
- Assist with annual audit preparation and respond to auditor inquiries
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and other applicable regulations
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a governmental accounting environment
- Experience with Tyler Munis financial software strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with year-end closing procedures, particularly in accounts payable
- Supervisory experience required

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time, on-site position (40 hours per week)
- May require occasional evening hours during budget season and fiscal year-end closing
