    OVERVIEW:

    The Senior Accountant is a key member of the leadership team for a non-profit, youth-serving organization operating across 16 locations in 7 counties, reporting directly to the President CEO or Designee. This role oversees all financial activities, ensuring the organization's fiscal health, compliance, and sustainability. The Senior Accountant will manage accounting operations, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. They will collaborate closely with executive leadership, contractual Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and accounting team along with Board members to provide strategic financial insights and ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Financial Management and Reporting:

    Prepare and present accurate, timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in collaboration with contractual CFO.

    Work with the contractual CFO to complete the annual financial audit and collaborate with external auditors to ensure a successful audit process.

    Budgeting and Forecasting:

    Develop the annual budget in partnership with the contractual CFO, as well as program and leadership teams.

    Collaborate with contractual CFO to create multi-year financial projections to guide strategic planning.

    Accounting Operations:

    Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.

    Ensure adherence to accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and maintain appropriate internal controls.

    Complete monthly and year-end closing processes in collaboration with the contractual CFO.

    Grant Management and Compliance:

    Oversee financial aspects of federal, state, and private grants, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting.

    Ensure compliance with grant requirements and funding regulations, including allowable cost allocations.

    Work with program teams to prepare grant budgets and financial reports.

    Team Leadership and Development:

    Supervise and mentor the finance team member(s), fostering professional growth and efficiency.

    Collaborate with contractual CFO on an ongoing basis to improve processes, reporting and overall function of the Finance Department.

    Develop and implement training for staff on financial procedures and compliance requirements.

    Create and maintain a collaborative work environment, ensuring alignment with organizational values.

    Policy and Compliance:

    Collaborate with contractual CFO to develop, implement, and monitor financial policies and procedures.

    Stay current with relevant regulations and standards impacting nonprofit finance.

    Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and reporting, including preparation of Form 990.

    Stakeholder Engagement:

    Work together with executive leadership and board members to provide financial updates and analysis.

    Support fundraising efforts by providing financial data for grant proposals.

    Build relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and funding agencies.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

    Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in nonprofit accounting.

    Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial compliance.

    Proven experience managing grant compliance.

    Proficiency in financial software and tools, with advanced Excel skills.

    Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a team.

    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

    Must complete BSAC training (company-paid) within three (3) months of employment.

    Must submit three (3) professional references.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience working with federal, state, and private grants in a nonprofit setting.

    Familiarity with accounting software commonly used by nonprofits (e.g., Financial Edge, Sage Intacct).

    Experience with multi-location financial management.

    Knowledge of IRS reporting requirements for nonprofits, including Form 990 preparation.

    Experience collaborating with boards and leadership on financial strategy.

    Commitment to and understanding of youth-serving organization values and goals.

    HEALTH AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must successfully complete a drug screening, background check, fingerprinting, health examination and TB test prior to employment.

    ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Daily contact with Club leaders, Club members, outside organizations and individuals to plan, coordinate and deliver programs. This is not a remote working role. Standard internal office environment. Travel to special events and field trips required. Occasional weekend work required to accomplish objectives.
