About the Role
The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to perform detailed accounting tasks, prepare comprehensive financial reports and statements, and analyze data to offer process and internal control improvement recommendations to management. This role involves maintaining accurate accounting records through the processing of customer and vendor invoices, managing payment and collection records, and recording journal entries for revenue recognition, accruals, amortizations, depreciations, and other transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Finance Manager with all accounting transactions and reporting requirements.
Record journal entries, including those for amortizations, depreciations, interest, cost allocation, and profit distribution among partners.
Prepare monthly accruals for revenues, expenses, and costs as needed (e.g., property taxes, operating expenses, unbilled revenues).
Perform account and bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
Prepare and analyze financial reports and statements to support strategic decision-making by management.
Develop, update, and maintain internal processes and controls, offering recommendations for continuous improvement.
Prepare cash flow forecasts and design the chart of accounts and cost structure.
Process customer and vendor invoices, along with their corresponding collections and payments.
Prepare sales tax returns and reconcile intercompany accounts.
Ensure adherence to monthly activity checklists and reporting calendars.
Monitor “Open Items” for each client.
Oversee the implementation of QuickBooks and monitor the aging of accounts receivable and payable.
Process payroll and ensure proper filing and safeguarding of all transaction supporting documentation.
Prepare 1099 forms and the Business Personal Property Tax Rendition.
Address client inquiries and participate in client meetings as needed.
Skills & Requirements
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA designation is a plus.
A minimum of 7 years of proven experience in accounting.
Previous experience in an accounting firm is preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail with analytical and organized thinking.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
QuickBooks certification is required; proficiency in Office 365 is essential.
High level of commitment, responsibility, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Capable of managing large volumes of information.
Proactive and solution-oriented with a willingness to propose and implement process improvements.
