About the Job: NVTA is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations that drive critical transportation projects across Northern Virginia. In this role, you’ll oversee the general ledger, prepare financial statements, and ensure compliance with grant regulations, while supporting year-end audits and contributing to strategic financial planning. Functional Responsibilities As a Senior Accountant at NVTA, you will:
Provide accounting support for administrative and project funding functions, including managing the general ledger, financial statements, and accounts payable.
Assist in maintaining proper internal controls by monitoring revenue, expenditures, assets, and liabilities, while recommending improvements to accounting procedures.
Manage fixed assets, ensure compliance with grant awards, and participate in year-end closings, audits, and financial reporting.
Reconcile bank and investment accounts, develop revenue estimates, and ensure accountability for project reimbursement requests.
Support special projects, providing financial analyses and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and governing bodies.

Has deep knowledge of government accounting, grant management, and compliance.
Is comfortable working independently while setting timelines and meeting deadlines.
Is intellectually curious, eager to analyze financial statements, and understand their practical impact on the Authority’s goals.
Thrives in a team environment, working with various agencies and jurisdictions.
Possesses strong communication skills to present complex financial data clearly.|
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with four or more years of relevant experience, preferably in governmental fund accounting.
Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Office 365.
CPA license, Master’s Degree, VGFOA, GFOA, or other professional certifications are preferred.
