Position Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned and results-driven Senior Buyer to join our team and play a pivotal role in our growing business. As a well-established company with over 40 years of success, we require an experienced professional to lead category management, contract negotiation, and product sourcing. This role will blend expertise in distribution buying with responsibilities spanning vendor negotiations, inventory management, and collaboration with sales and marketing teams.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in purchasing, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to deliver measurable results. This is a team-oriented, in-office position with limited travel (10% or less) for tradeshows and industry events.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement & Sourcing
Obtain the best possible product costs, quality, and service at all times.
Source, negotiate, and manage contracts and rebates with vendors and brokers.
Set up and launch new products to meet market demand and business goals.
Conduct regular price comparisons to ensure competitive pricing.
Category & Inventory Management
Maintain pricing for items within assigned categories, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Order products to meet forecasted demand while managing inventory effectively.
Collaborate with the team to implement inventory management strategies.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Perform detailed analyses of purchasing trends, vendor performance, and cost-saving opportunities.
Utilize tools such as Microsoft Excel and SAP for reporting and decision-making.
Monitor and report on the financial impact of negotiated programs, rebates, and other initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Minimum of 10+ years of purchasing experience in a distribution business. (MUST HAVE)
Minimum of 5+ years purchasing experience in product categories including Candy and Snack, HBC, Remedies, Mobile accessories and Suncare (MUST HAVE)
Background in marketing/logistics or store operations and merchandising methodologies is preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is required.
Import experience is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of procurement logistics, inventory management, marketing, accounting, and financial management practices.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities.
