    Job Description

    Orion is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to design airports and other civil site development projects at our Honolulu office. The position involves civil design of airport infrastructure including runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, airfield electrical improvements, drainage, grading, and other such airport civil infrastructure. The successful candidate will provide airfield engineering services related to planning, assessments, design, project management, and construction management of airport related infrastructure.

    General/Technical

    · Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined engineering design, solutions and deliverables for moderate scope projects.

    · Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations and solutions, and where necessary, identifies data as insufficient or confirmation more investigation and data is advisable.

    · Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant providing valuable input during design meetings and workshops as part of his/her technical specialty.

    · Conducts peer reviews and makes technical presentations both internal and at Client meetings.

    · Conducts value engineering evaluations, determining alternative designs, and produces reports/memorandums summarizing completed work.

    Project Management

    · May develop and evaluate project plans and design criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

    · Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering for moderate scope projects.

    · Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.

    · Tracks overall financial performance of task assignment. This includes coordinating with the Project Manager to monitor staff time and work backlog on tasks.

    Client Management/Revenue Generation

    · Actively involved with clients and business development.

    Complexity & Decision-Making Authority

    · Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in meetings and design workshops to resolve important questions and plans and coordinates follow-up work.

    · Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

    Development & Leadership of Others

    ·Delegates work, mentors, trains, and supervises less experienced staff to complete assignments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    · Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or appropriate discipline.

    · PhD degree in related engineering discipline can substitute for up to three years of experience.

    · Min. 7-10+ years post graduate experience in Civil Engineering.

    · Must be licensed Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering with the ability to obtain licensure in other states.

    · Must be proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D and Microsoft Office 365.

    · Must be able to pass TSA Security Screening and Background Check for working at commercial airports.

    · Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to travel on a frequent basis.

    · Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.

    · Proficient in writing reports, technical communications, and client communications.

    · Must be well-organized and can manage and prioritize numerous tasks to ensure a commitment to project delivery, client service, and quality management.

    · Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    · Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.

    · Utilization of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories and design principles.

    · Ability to solve complex issues with limited direction.

    · Diversified knowledge of technology, materials, industry design standards and criteria, design concepts and construction techniques.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    · Will primarily work in our corporate office in downtown Honolulu.

    · Be open to travel to project sites and Orion business offices in WA and MA.

    · Field work in an airport and/or construction environment requires varying work schedules including night work.
