The Site Development Engineer will be responsible for designing and producing plans for a range of general civil engineering projects, including site layouts, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, horizontal and vertical controls, and other related tasks. This role involves managing complex assignments, requiring the application of sound engineering judgment to evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques and procedures to meet project objectives.
Responsibilities:
Conduct engineering calculations to support the design of civil engineering projects.
Oversee project management, including client interactions, public engagement, and internal team coordination.
Create and draft civil engineering plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
Lead and provide training for site investigations, surveys, CAD drafting, and data collection efforts.
Develop and review engineering designs, reports, and calculations while guiding and mentoring team members.
Ensure quality assurance by monitoring project execution, addressing issues, and recommending necessary modifications.
Assess client needs, draft project proposals, and prepare accurate fee estimates.
Collaborate with government entities, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to gather design information and obtain project approvals.
Draft and edit construction specifications, engineering reports, and cost estimates.
Prepare bid quantities, tabulate items, and calculate costs for construction projects.
Perform site visits to evaluate construction quality and progress against plans.
Utilize expertise in public and private funding sources to support project financing strategies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
PE licensure in Michigan – Indiana is a plus
10+ years of experience managing site development and land transformation
10+ years of experience in A/E/C industry with record of client retention/attraction
5+ years of experience in developing business
5+ years of experience managing direct reports
Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
Broad computer knowledge in particular Microsoft Office products
Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
Compensation:
Base salary up to 120k/year
