    Position summary:

    We are seeking a motivated senior-level engineer with a minimum of 7-years of experience (10 years preferred) to support the planning, design, and implementation of river, floodplain, and wetland restoration projects in tidal and fluvial environments. As a project manager, you will lead junior engineering staff and oversee tasks such as topographic surveying, drafting, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, engineering calculations, report preparation and construction observation.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Project management, project development, and marketing

    Development of detailed plans, specifications, cost estimates, calculations, and reports, along with permit application support

    Engineering field/topographic surveying and map development

    Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling

    Construction observation and post-construction monitoring

    Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    A minimum of 7 years of experience in civil engineering

    Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering (or related field)

    California PE license preferred but not mandatory

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Experience in the field of water resources or ecological restoration

    Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D

    Working understanding of HEC RAS and HEC HMS preferred

    Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate well with non-engineering staff

    Valid California driver’s license

    Willingness to travel (typically a few days/month) and work outdoors in rough terrain

    Working Conditions:

    Waterways provides a comfortable office environment with a flexible work schedule. We provide reasonable accommodations to individuals to be able to perform their work. We work in the field year-round, with more intensive field work during the in-water work period for construction (July-October). Field work is performed outdoors, in inclement weather, and sometimes at active construction sites. Some projects are in remote and rugged terrain with limited to no cell phone service. Candidate is expected to be capable of walking on rough terrain and in small creeks and rivers caring survey gear and other field equipment. Waterways provides meals and accommodations when overnight travel is required.
