Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Manager, the Senior Diesel Mechanic is responsible for carrying out the ongoing maintenance and repairs of the company’s fleet of heavy-duty to light-duty diesel and gas trucks, following safety guidelines and industry regulations.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience working with heavy, mid, and light-duty trucks and engines
Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience working with diesel, drivetrain, suspension, electronic, and HVAC
Experience using tools of the trade including power tools and diagnostic computers and equipment
Experience with tires
Knowledge of computers and electronics
CDL preferred, but not required
Valid CA driver’s license
Preferred experience with LPG pumps, valves, compressors, Emergency Shutdown Systems, VK, and Hydro
Bilingual (Eng/Span) preferred
Other Qualifications
Flexibility of schedule and available to travel to the vehicle location as needed – Must be available for service calls nights and weekends
Ability to work in a high performance, fast-paced team environment
Must have and bring your own tools
Willingness to learn
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and DOT inspections on Class A diesel trucks, Bobtails, and Service Trucks
May provide over-the-phone guidance and direction to drivers or others, related to vehicle issue troubleshooting
Review work orders to evaluate the tasks required and inspect trucks for proper performance
Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret the results to offer suitable solutions
Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with industry standards
Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
Communicate with the manager to advise of work timeline, if additional work is needed, or if work outlined is not needed
Document all work performed and make recommendations on the repair order
Communicate with the part vendors to obtain quotes and order needed parts
Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or for inventory
Road tests vehicles when required
Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documents required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the company and any other Federal, State or Local regulations
Report machinery defects, malfunctions, or safety issues to management
Train other mechanics
Perform other duties as assigned
