The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical oversight and management of a project through the full product lifecycle, from assignment in development through manufacturing NPI (New Product Introduction). Project Engineers may be responsible for multiple Projects, largely dependent upon size and complexity, have dotted line reporting to the assigned Program Manager, and solid line reporting to the Director of Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Principal point of detailed technical contact with customer, responsible for building and maintaining quality relationships with key technical stakeholders.
· Responsible for developing the Project Plan, including detailed WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and associated time and materials resource estimating for assigned projects at the start of each project phase. Also generate plan and costs for identified additional and out of scope work activity – to be provided to Program Manager for negotiation with customer.
· Responsible for generation and maintenance of Project Tracker tool, including weekly spending forecasts and reporting of actuals against original budget and most recent forecast for all labor and materials.
· Provide regular project status update reports to, and with, Program Manager, for communication to the customer and senior management by PM. These updates summarize status against key milestones and key issues, risks and mitigations impacting performance, schedule and cost.
· Responsible for management of multi-disciplinary technical team assigned to project and delivery against all stated project time, cost and performance objectives – including quality of work product delivered. Ensures team compliance with all required systems and processes, including accurate time recording, and coordination of document change control.
· Accountable and responsible for generation of required technical deliverables per proposal and internal compliance, including plans, specifications, meeting notes, action items, engineering bills of material, analyses, prototyping, testing and generation of other documentation in support of the PHF (Project History File) requirements as provided by Program Management.
· Responsible for coordinating with Program Managers, other Project Engineers, and VP of Engineering for identifying resource needs and allocation and resolving any identified conflicts that may impact program success.
· Supports Program Manager in phase closeout review for analysis of delivery against plan. Generate recommendations to be considered for incorporation into next phase of activity for continuing improvement in performance against target metrics.
Qualifications
· BS in an engineering/related discipline, MS preferred
· 10+ years of engineering product development experience; demonstrated success of managing complex projects from inception to commercialization; excellent systems engineering skills critical
· Strong skills in project management by influence rather than authority is crucial to this role
· Proficiency with MS suite tools, including Office and Project
· Experience with ERP and PDM systems required, Experience with Epicor E9 and SolidWorks EPDM a plus
· Excellent written and communication skills, including experience presenting to customers
Working Environment
· Generally works in an office environment, but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. Occasional travel required.
Physical Requirements
· Interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting.
· Must be able to communicate face-to-face and on the phone.
