    Clayco Design and Engineering (CDE) was created to diversify and grow Clayco’s industrial business unit’s capabilities with a focus on efficiently delivering robust design-build architectural and engineering solutions. The Clayco Design and Engineering team brings a tremendous amount of engineering expertise to the Clayco enterprise from a wide array of industrial segments such as food & beverage, consumer products, manufacturing, and life-science products.

    The Role We Want You For

    The Senior Structural Designer will be working with in-house Development, Architecture, and Construction teams to provide Structural Design and Quality Assurance on industrial (distribution, manufacturing, food and beverage, and cold storage) projects for our nationwide clients.

    The Specifics of the Role

    • Oversee the project drawing creation on simple to complex projects of all sizes.
    • Oversight / understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases.
    • Coordinate with internal and external parties when asked, manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of others.
    • Direct and manage the workflows and execution of design support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.
    • This individual has responsibility to oversee the production of deliverables or lead activities which require more experience, deeper understanding or involve more complexity.
    • Creates conceptual structural models based on verbal direction or rough sketches from engineers or other designers. Incorporates standard notes and details for use in the construction documents.
    • Manages and incorporates electronic or paper redlines from the Structural Engineer using established workflows.
    • Takes complete ownership of their portion of the structural scope, reliably working to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
    • Highly focused on quality, ensuring conformance with established structural standards, project standards, and project delivery processes.

    Requirements

    • Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or similar technical degree. (or 6+ years of experience utilizing BIM software)
    • 6-10 years of experience required, in an operating company or design firm setting. A mixture of design firm, operating company or construction related experience (within the market sector) are desirable.
    • Proficient in Revit Structures and Navisworks
    • Able to mentor junior designers by assisting with finding answers to technical questions and concerns.
    • Proactive in advancing workflows, systems, and tools within their own discipline, including design automation skills. Embraces emerging technologies.
    • Able to provide quality reviews of models and documents prepared by others to assure design and project standards are met.
    • Creates families and fully utilizes the live functions available in the platform to maintain intelligent designs.
    • Understands construction practices and provides constructability feedback to the project team when the design is incomplete or not constructible.
