    Senior Structural Engineer Position

    MWA, Inc. - Truckee, CA office is seeking a well-rounded and self-motivated applicant for immediate placement as a Senior Structural Engineer for custom residential, multi-family, and commercial projects. This position can grow based on the motivation and tenacity of the individual and their ability to work with our team.

    Candidate requirements:

    Must be local to the Truckee/Tahoe area or willing to relocate.

    MS or BS degree in engineering with structural emphasis from an accredited engineering program.

    Licensed professional civil engineer (PE) in California and Nevada.

    Possibly pursuing or has obtained Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.

    Working knowledge of softwares such as Revit, Autocad, Excel, Enercalc, and Risa3D.

    Ability to quickly perform rough structural calculations and/or approximations.

    Depth of understanding of current building codes including IBC, CBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 341 & 360, NDS & SPDWS, and TMS 402/602.

    Ability to quickly identify and provide solutions for engineering problems that arise during design and/or construction.

    Familiarity with custom residential, multi-family, commercial, and institutional construction including appropriate materials, assemblies, and design strategies.

    Able to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the company as well as outside agencies, contractors, consultants, and clients.

    Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills.

    Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

    Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and grow.

    Requirements:

    Physical Body Positions and Movements: Standing, kneeling, bending and sitting for long periods of time. Carrying, use of hands, arms, legs, eyes, ears and voice. Must be able to negotiate rugged terrain on foot and able to drive a vehicle.

    Physical Appearance: Must be presentable.

    Mental: Good design and problem solving skills.

    Language requirements are reading, writing, spelling and ability to communicate clearly in English. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints.

    Your Role:

    Reports to Principal Engineer

    Engineering

    Assume structural lead role on projects including oversight of engineering technician(s) and structural designer(s).

    Prepare structural design including framing layouts, member sizing, lateral design, and detailing for structural projects.

    Prepare engineering calculations to support structural design using a combination of hand calculations, spreadsheets, and analysis software.

    May delegate portions of structural design to structural designer(s) and oversee their performance.

    Perform structural observations of projects during construction and prepare letters documenting findings.

    Respond to questions during construction, both formally and informally.

    Provide guidance on structural system options to the architectural team during schematic design.

    Perform quality control review of projects designed by other structural leads.

    Maintain MWA, Inc. operations, quality and CAD standards relative to the structural design of the project.

    Project Management

    Prepares strategic plans for project success.

    Manages structural design of multiple projects simultaneously during design and construction.

    Monitors structural design progress with respect to internal milestones, submittal deadlines, and project budgets.

    Plans and schedules structural work based on deadlines and available personnel.

    Attend regular project manager scheduling meetings.

    Communicates with the principal engineer, architectural project lead, and other structural team members on a regular basis through the design period of the project.

    Review and quality-control designs prior to handoff for final review by principals.

    Occasionally research new products and assemblies, review building code requirements, etc.

    Occasionally assist with other duties assigned by management.

    Business development

    Meets with prospective clients on structural projects in person, on phone, and/or by virtual meeting.

    Conveys what structural requirements may exist to prospective clients for their project as well as our role as the structural engineer.

    Estimates project fees/hours for inclusion in proposals.

    Prepare proposals for structural-led projects under supervision of principal engineer.

    Identifies and/or develops new opportunities for structural design work.
