SERVICE PROGRAMMING ENGINEER
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides programming of control and automation systems for equipment on company premises in Huntersville, NC or at customer sites in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
May need to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned.
Software Duties Performed: • Performs PLC Ladder, Structured Text and Function Block troubleshooting and programming. • Identify contradictions within function blocks for Motion Control, servo drive, system logics and Pneumatics. • Designs and implements PLC applications, using EPAS-4 (IEC 61131-3 CoDeSys standard), Schneider(SoMachine), Allen Bradley (ControlLogix 5, 500, and 5000) and B & R a plus. • Implements and trouble shoots proprietary Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications, using VisiwinNet Smart (Tangius), Galileo, Rockwell Software (AB Factory Talk View Studio). • Designs and implements Robots (Kuka, B & R, PacRobot) applications • Implements internal customer requirements for communication protocols (Ethernet, Profibus, SERCOS, OPC, Modbus, ControlNet, DeviceNet) • Works with vendors of vision system in packaging area to standardize the scope of work in the URS for projects
General Duties Performed: • Provides customer site start-up and commissioning support associated with packaging automation system. • Reads/understands/develops engineering documentation, Electrical Schematics, Installation Qualification/Operational Qualification/ (IQ/OQ) manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and general technical analyses/memoranda. • Responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software. • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. • Field work at customer sites implementing programming, troubleshooting, and validation • Provides remote and on-site support to customers, including nights and weekends, as needed. • Provides diagnostics support with the use of specialized tools (i.e. computer) and programming software • Acts as liaison at customer site between customer project management team and in-house Pester staff • Supervises and supports mechanical and electrical technicians at customer sites in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance. • Complies with the company safety procedures. Lives the company culture of integrity and professional competence. • Provides timely and detailed status updates to Service Manager • Works independently at customer sites to complete projects within given deadline period • Listens to customers request and formulates a resolution based on the customers’ needs and other vendors involved in the project • Quality – Ensures standards are maintained in a highly regulated, process-driven environment • Help Train/Orient/Bring Up to Speed new employees
Electrical Duties Performed: • Interprets Electrical wiring diagrams; Updates electrical wiring diagrams in E-Plan(AutoCAD) • Interprets mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements • Follows established company standards for drawings and component selections • Helps establish new and maintain existing standards • Interprets electrical plan to identify where control panel, circuits breakers, motors and other electrical components are found or will be positioned • Uses hand tools and multi-meter to safely work in an electrical panel • Testing existing wiring for safety and quality control • Powers up electrical systems and configure hardware per application specifications • Checks quality of assemblers and technicians work and responds to inquiries during assembly • Works with Service Manager to provide input with quote preparation as required
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES/EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree required • Must have at least 4 years of related experience in field and various system controls • Experience with Allen Bradley family controls • Elau controls experience a plus including PAC drive M and PAC drive 3 platforms • Kuka robotic experience required • Motion control experience needed • A strong aptitude of machine construction, particularly in the area of programming, robotics, wiring, and electronics • E-Plan software experience a plus • Strong customer service and communication skills • Previous experience in packaging machine installations a plus but not mandatory • Previous programming/service/repair experience in packaging machinery industry a plus • Knowledge of German and/or Spanish language is a plus • Must be able to travel 25%-50% of the time with extended periods spent at customer locations • Knowledge of Track & Trace /Aggregation systems a plus • Serialization experience a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands/fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, and hear. • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. • When at a customer location the environment will mainly consists of working in a manufacturing environment. When at the corporate headquarters the environment is that of an office. • Must be able to work extended days as needed during installations and troubleshooting periods • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects • Must be able to travel (domestic and international) and be away for possibly 3 to 4 weeks average at a time. Travel can be via car and/or air travel depending on distance. • When traveling, must be able to transport and carry basic tool kit weighing approximately 25 pounds along with a laptop, peripherals and personal items (ie: luggage) • Must be able to handle stress well as certain situations can cause on the job stress (ie: travel delays, an unsatisfied customer because loss of machine productivity due to machine being down, etc.) • Alternating weekend stand by possible
