Job Summary:
The CNC Set-Up Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating multi-axis CNC machines, including Okuma Mills and CNC Lathes, to produce precision parts. This role involves interpreting technical designs, ensuring quality standards, performing routine maintenance, and optimizing machine performance. A strong focus on safety, accuracy, and collaboration with engineering teams is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines to manufacture precision parts according to specifications.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and design plans to understand part requirements and ensure accuracy.
- Program CNC machines, inputting design specifications to achieve precise results.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues with CNC machines to ensure optimal functionality.
- Inspect and measure finished parts using precision tools, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify conformance to specifications.
- Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and materials for production.
- Adjust machine settings and parameters to optimize performance and maintain consistent quality.
- Maintain detailed records of production processes, including tool usage, adjustments, and output metrics.
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment.
- Collaborate with engineers or designers to refine manufacturing processes or accommodate custom jobs.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in operating and programming Okuma Mills and CNC Lathes with multi-axis capabilities.
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Skilled in precision measurement tools, including micrometers and calipers, to ensure quality control.
- Knowledge of CNC programming and troubleshooting for optimal machine performance.
- Familiarity with selecting and setting up tools, fixtures, and materials for various operations.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate production records and documentation.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to workplace safety protocols.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with engineering teams.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment or similar role is highly preferred.
