    THE POSITION

    Gain real-world legal experience and exposure to what it is like to work in an in-house legal department. The candidate will report to and work closely with our General Counsel, as well as collaborate with other employees to help define, create and edit legal documents and contracts to both protect Sezzle and help us move our business forward.  The candidate will gain experience in areas such as general contract work, corporate governance, employment, securities and intellectual property.

    This role will provide support by assisting with legal research and writing, developing investigative strategies, the collection, and the organization of documents.

    This role is designed for a highly-motivated individual who is project-oriented and able to work independently with little guidance. A successful candidate will be able to work quickly under pressure and respond to multiple demands at once

    OUR COMPANY

    Sezzle is a cutting-edge fintech company whose mission is to financially empower young consumers. Only one in three millennials own a credit card, and the vast majority of millennials possess a subprime credit score or no score at all. To address these problems, Sezzle has built a payment platform that increases purchasing power for consumers by offering interest-free installment plans at online stores. This increase in purchasing power for consumers leads to increased sales and basket sizes for the hundreds of eCommerce merchants that currently work with Sezzle.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist with the due diligence process for potential M&A initiatives and Board preparation materials.
    • Review of contracts and all 3rd party NDA's. 
    • Organize and track all contracts in place. 
    • Setup "Contract Matrix" summarizing all contracts in place. 
    • Setup "State Matrix" summarizing all statutory requirements to do business in all states
    • Setup "International Matrix" summarizing all statutory requirements to do business in foreign jurisdictions (as identified). 
    • Identify and resolve any non-compliance issues in states and foreign countries.
    • Must have Law Degree or currently pursuing a Law Degree. 
    • Experience writing and editing contracts and NDA's is needed.

    • Knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

    • Ability to take initiative and work independently with only general supervision.
