Under moderate supervision, the Sheet Metal Operator will operate shears, punch press, notchers, and bending equipment to cut and shape sheet metal, and do other work as required. Responsibilities: • Moves and prepares sheet metal for work • Measures surface to determine the proper length, width, thickness, and coverage required for the job • Operates shears to cut doors, sides, roofs, and small parts • Operates punch press to measure and cut square, circular, and other shaped holes • May operate manual and computerized press brakes to bend corners in sheet metal and back gauges, including making horizontal and vertical adjustments • May operate notcher to make open or closed cuts for doors, sides, roofs, and small parts • May operate grinders and cutting torches • Fabricates plastic barriers using appropriate tools and equipment • Moves material into proper position, cleans, and maintains work area Qualifications: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs • Ability to lift heavy materials and tools • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints • Experience in working with machinery such as press brakes and shears • Ability to cut parts, punch, and bend with press brakes as needed Compensation: $22 - $24 hourly
