  • Responsibilities

    Fabricate, assembles, and installs large metal structural parts to include plates, bulkheads, strong backs, turnbuckles, and come-along. Aligns parts in relation to each other. Tacks and welds foundation and structural members. Performs lay out work according to blueprints or reference lines. Marks location of holes to be drilled, drives wedges and installs temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

    Minimum three years of journeyman level experience. Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology and different metals required. Good burning, welding and craftsmanship skills. Mechanical ability preferred. T-1 welding certificate required for FCAW (flux core), SMAW (stick) optional but highly recommended. Ability to pass hands on assessment test and a written test. Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English). Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.

     

    Required Education and Experience

    • High school education/equivalent preferred.
    • Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred.


    Assessment

    There will be an assessment conducted on the following:

    • Welding 2G, 3G and 4G
    • Cutting and Scarfing
    • Fitting, measuring and tack weld.


    Unique/Additional Requirements

    • Must be able to work all shifts and at heights.
    • Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment.
    • Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills.
    • Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity.
    • Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
