    Job Description

    Our non-profit organization seeks a driven and dedicated individual to serve as our Head Teacher of the Chinese language program. The Head Teacher is responsible for planning and leading the operations of the Chinese language program that caters to over 500 students. They will provide the overall supervision of our Chinese language teachers and ensuring that our Chinese school’s goals are being met. In this leadership position, you will be working closely with the Center’s Board of Directors to implement the operating guidelines and policies along with ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. You will need to build relationships with local community organizations and promote the reputation of the Center. To be successful in this role, you should have a comprehensive understanding of teaching Chinese language, administration experience for school/learning organization, interpersonal skills and ability to lead a staff of Chinese language teachers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for planning out the overall curriculum for the Chinese school
    • Revise and improve academic standards for the various grade levels
    • Develop academic focus of the language program to accommodate the new requirements of today’s community
    • Establish a high quality and safe educational environment for the students and staff
    • Provide guidelines and policies for smooth and safe operation of the Chinese school
    • Be the lead person in hiring and management of Chinese language teachers
    • Oversee Chinese language teaching and administrative staff and regularly assess performance
    • Build up teamwork and efficacy of the Center’s staff to attain the Center’s educational goals
    • Plan and structure appropriate class offerings for different semesters
    • Monitor academic progress of classes and ensure quality education is being delivered in well run classrooms
    • Manage overall administrative activities for the center including communications to stakeholders, managing student information, development of class schedules, and notifications to students and parents
    • Manage relationships with parents and address issues with students
    • Acquire appropriate textbooks and student workbooks for use in school curriculum
    • Plan for recruitment of new students to school including appropriate advertising and marketing
    • Provide information to update the Center’s website and online marketing
    • Establish school calendar and oversee planning of special school events and assemblies
    • Plan for annual school graduation and production of yearbook
    • Maintain excellent communication with the Center's Director and provide regular status reports regarding school operations
    • Establish good relationship with other local Chinese community institutions in Bay Area

    ​​QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors degree in education or related field
    • At least 10 years of teaching experience in Chinese language
    • 5 years of school administrative experience
    • Strong supervisory experience over a teaching staff
    • Able to communicate verbally and in written format using English and Mandarin (Mandarin is essential and Cantonese language is a plus)
    • Strong understanding of Chinese education, culture and heritage
    • Basic experience with using computers and school administrative systems

    Company Description

    Our Center is a non-profit institution established over seventy years ago to provide youths around the Bay Area with the opportunity to learn the Chinese language and culture. The Center provides traditional Chinese language classes (both Mandarin and Cantonese) during weekdays and weekends. The grades range from kindergarten through 9th grade. Besides teaching the children to converse and write in the Chinese language, the school also educates the students about the Chinese culture, history, geography, and calligraphy. The school has over 500 students and is one of the oldest well-established Chinese schools in the Bay Area.
