Steel Shop Helper is a versatile role supporting the operations of both the steel yard and fabrication shop. This position involves assisting with material handling, organizing inventory, supporting fabrication processes, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00AM - 2:30PM (Saturday's upon request)
Responsibilities:
Steel Yard Duties:
Load and unload steel materials from trucks using forklifts, cranes, or manually.
Organize and stack steel materials in the yard by size, type, and inventory protocols.
Conduct inventory checks, label materials accurately, and ensure proper storage.
Perform basic maintenance on yard tools and equipment.
Keep the yard clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Steel Shop Duties:
Prepare materials for fabrication, including cutting, grinding, measuring, drilling and tapping.
Operate basic hand and power tools such as grinders, saws, and drills, band saws.
Support welders and fabricators by holding, positioning, or securing materials during work.
Transport materials and products within the shop using forklifts or hand trucks.
Clean and maintain shop equipment, tools, and workstations.
Assist with assembly, finishing, or other fabrication processes as needed.
Qualifications:
Must pass Background check.
Previous experience in a steel yard, fabrication shop, or construction environment (preferred).
Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment (certification is a plus).
Basic knowledge of steel materials, fabrication processes, and measuring tools.
Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy objects (50-100 lbs) and working in varying conditions.
Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and communication skills. Work Environment:
