The Shop Supervisor plays a key role in overseeing the daily operations of the manufacturing facility, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe production processes that adhere to set timelines. This position requires coordinating team activities, leading a group of welders, fabricators, and coating specialists, and ensuring that all projects meet high-quality standards. The Shop Supervisor works closely with the engineering, project management, and quality assurance teams to fulfill customer requirements and meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Foster a culture of safety, ensuring all team members comply with established safety guidelines.
Cultivate a supportive and collaborative work environment.
Maintain consistent product quality, instilling a commitment to excellence across all shop personnel.
Manage and guide team workflow, including assigning tasks, communicating key information, answering queries, and troubleshooting issues in the welding area.
Promote and implement 5S and lean manufacturing techniques on the shop floor.
Proactively address production challenges such as delays, material shortages, or equipment malfunctions.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to shop employees, focusing on their development and skill improvement.
Collaborate with the engineering team to drive process optimizations, including cost-saving initiatives, standardizing tasks, and improving workflow efficiency.
Assist with investigations related to accidents or safety incidents.
Apply company policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
Maintain a balance between hands-on production and managerial duties, with the balance varying depending on production needs.
Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications:
Strong verbal communication abilities.
In-depth knowledge of steel fabrication techniques.
Experience operating steel processing machinery such as plasma cutters, hydraulic brake presses, band saws, ironworkers, and plate rollers.
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
Previous experience with ERP systems is preferred.
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
Skilled in operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
