    Description:

    The Simulation & Virtual Reality Laboratory Technician works under the supervision of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences Director of the Simulation Center to provide ongoing technical support for simulation and virtual reality delivery. This person is responsible for audio-visual (A/V) equipment evaluation, support, maintenance and setup; computer software support for simulation equipment as well as manikins used in the simulation program. Major areas of responsibility include collaborating with the Director of the Simulation Center, and College faculty to assist in the implementation and evaluation of technologies required for simulation programs using industry standards and established best practice standards; operating computer manikins, related operating software, programming needs and A/V equipment; locating medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of simulation activities (e.g. IV supplies, pumps, dressings, etc.)

    Duties And Responsibilities

    1. Sets up simulation equipment and other learning technologies to meet the needs of faculty and students

    2. Prepares supplies and equipment needed for simulation labs.

    3. Clean-up supplies, equipment and manikins once simulation lab is complete.

    4. Restock simulation lab supplies/carts as needed for each lab.

    5. Operates and maintains computer hardware and audio-video recording systems.

    6. Operates simulation equipment with the ability to follow medical aspects of scenario and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions.

    7. Assists faculty with human patient simulation labs and virtual reality labs including organization and preparation

    8. Identifies and implements solutions to problems related to simulation equipment, computer hardware and software.

    9. Repairs and maintains equipment as required or initiates repairs for equipment under warranty.

    10. Communicates with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates and technology changes as directed by the Director of the Simulation Center.

    11. Communicates both technical and non-technical matters effectively in person and in writing with a diverse population.

    12. Remains current with technical and professional skills by attending continuing education and training courses.

    13. Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies in the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

    14. Researches specifications for hardware and software products. Must be aware of software licensing laws and requirements.

    15. Assists in maintaining reference materials for simulation equipment and related audio-visual and computer hardware and software.

    16. Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory of simulation equipment including manikins, hardware and software.

    17. Trains faculty on operation of equipment as needed and develops quick-guide reference aids for faculty.

    18. Participate in College and University open houses, recruitment, student and other College events as needed.

    19. Contributes effectively to a positive work environment that demonstrates and supports a learning-centered environment.

    20. Promotes and models a team approach in the conduct of daily operations within the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

    21. Reinforces and maintains high ethical standards of conduct and procedures to assist in ensuring the security of the College’s technology assets and data.

    22. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Simulation Center

    Qualifications

    1. Bachelors’ degree in information technology, communications, related field or equivalent experience.

    2. Minimum of two years, experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Media, etc.) and have the ability to trouble shoot complex hardware/software issues.

    3. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to provide clear, concise directions and to communicate highly technical information to a technically diverse population.

    4. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with or without accommodation.

    5. Ability to maintain departmental records and facilities.

    6. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with administrators, faculty, students, sales representatives and other personnel.

    7. Some evening and weekend hours may be needed.

    Preferred:

    1. 2-5 years experience with health-related learning technology/simulation.

    2. 2-5 years working in a college or university.

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000 . St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
