Software Set Up / Simulation Lab Technician

Position Overview:
This role is designed to improve the efficiency of the validation and test process at the client site. The primary function is providing simulator set up and support. This position will report functionally to the Manager of Controls Simulation and Modeling.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Review/understand weekly simulator test schedule and set up simulators for validation/regression test.
This includes:
- Hardware configuration
- Loading software and configuring the simulator
- Simulator models clean up and launch.
- Loading/Configuring Air Brakes and 3rd party devices as required.
- Perform a check out test to ensure set up is correct.
- Tear down set up and restore sim to standard state.
- Clean up and put away any non-standard equipment.
- Front line Troubleshooting
- Provide “first response” troubleshooting when users encounter issues.
- Escalate issues to simulation team management as required.
- Identifying and segregating defective hardware
- Resolve ClearQuest defects as assigned.
- Documentation
- Maintain configuration control over simulators and other assets (i.e. Air Brakes)
- Develop instructions on special/unique set ups.
- Develop troubleshooting guides to enable users to resolve problems on their own.
- Parts Tracking and Inventory
- Follow Sim policies and procedures to keep track of parts used.
- Maintain a neat and organized lab environment.
- Identify when on hand spares are low and alert Wabtec functional management.
Hours of Operation:
- The sim lab is open 24/7. The primary hours of this position are 8 AM to 5 PM, but it may be necessary at times to support evenings and weekends. These situations will be planned ahead of time as much as possible. Flexible hours are available if agreed upon by Wabtec functional management.
- The Set-up tech shall be available by phone and remote access for after-hours support as required.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering or 5 years’ experience in a technical environment
- Electrical troubleshooting skills
- Basic circuit design/ability to read schematics.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills
- Customer service/support experience
Skills/Certifications Required:
- Linux/UNIX shell programming
- System Integration
- Experience in test environment.
- Experience in manufacturing test.
- Hands on experience with wiring, harnessing, and soldering.
