    Job Description

    ** Job Summary**

    The assignment is scheduled for 10 weeks (traditionally late May through end of July). A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. We prefer students currently in their Junior or Senior year studying Geographic Information Systems and currently working towards a degree in Geography, Computer Science, Planning, Coastal Environmental/Marine Science, or an affiliated discipline. Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and time management skills are necessary. Candidates will be using the ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop, etc.) as well as using systems such as Peoplesoft and the Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Geospatial Data Collection and Data Management
    • Cartographic Design (static, dynamic, and web-based)
    • Technical Writing (metadata, log reports, update reports
    • Keep daily and/or weekly journals to prepare for project.
    • Project: PowerPoint Presentation last week of internship late July

    ** Additional Job Responsibilities**

    • Site visits to assist in gathering information, ground-truthing data, etc.
    • Assist the GIS Manager in routine tasks (document scanning, data update, map creation) as needed.
    • Special tasks as assigned.

    ** Minimum Qualifications**

    _ Education and Experience_

    High school diploma and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with upperclassman status. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority owned licensed motor vehicle. Must have the ability to obtain a (TWIC) Transportation Worker Identification Credential.

    ** Preferred Qualifications**

    Familiarity with the ArcGIS suite of programs, particularly ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Desktop.

    Familiarity with geospatial collection app technology, such as Field Maps, Workforce, or Survey 123, on iOS.

    Familiarity with database administration concepts and procedures.

    Familiarity with cartographic design principles.

    Experience with full Microsoft Office Suite

    Experience with Kronos timeclocks

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
    • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, and pull.
    • Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks.
    • Hearing is required to adequately perform telecommunication functions.
    • Ability to verbally communicate clearly with co-workers.
    • Ability to operate and view a personal computer, smartphone, and tablet device
