Job Description: Spanish Teacher

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Middle School Director

** Summary Description**

The Pine School seeks a full-time Spanish teacher to join our World Languages Department, teaching courses ranging from introductory-level Spanish through, potentially, higher-level and AP courses. The teacher will also serve as a faculty advisor to a small group of students, fostering connections beyond the classroom. This educator will create engaging, immersive learning experiences that develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while deepening their cultural understanding.

Collaboration is essential, as the World Language department is expected to work closely to ensure a smooth progression for students as they advance in their language studies. The ideal candidate will cultivate strong student relationships, create an engaging classroom environment, and use data to enhance instruction, while actively contributing to faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. This position reports to the Middle and Upper School Directors.

** Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

• Selects/states long-range goals and short-term measurable objectives.
• Identifies and implements various instructional strategies according to the learning styles in the classroom.
• Prepares instructional resources for use.
• Orients students to the lesson and gives clear directions.
• Develops the lesson and provides practice and summarization.
• Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and pedagogy.
• Monitors and measures student progress systematically.
• Provides constructive feedback on student progress and uses assessment results to improve instruction.
• Manages class time and student behaviors by establishing age-appropriate classroom procedures.
• Regularly improves professional knowledge and skills.
• Takes a leadership role in school committees and participates in shared decision-making.
• Fulfills professional responsibilities each year.
• Teaches a full load of classes or instructional minutes as defined by the appropriate division.
• Serves as an advisor, homeroom teacher or assumes an alternative responsibility.
• Attends and participates in grade/division/School-wide events and PINE community activities.
• Holds parent/teacher conferences, with regular parent touch points.
• Documents student progress through report cards, grading, and narratives.
• Maintains consistent and timely communication with parents, colleagues, and students.
• Supervises students as assigned by division [e.g. car line, lunch, study hall, events, etc].
• Chaperones field trips, off-campus education trips and other out-of-school student activities as needed.
• Engages in professional development and growth.
• Contributes to the School Community and Culture.

** Qualification Requirements**

• Undergraduate Degree in Spanish, Romance Languages, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
• Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
• Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet various deadlines and accomplish a variety of responsibilities
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and families
• Strong candidates will have experience working with elementary students. Must be energetic, reliable, and integrity driven, and have strong communication skills to ensure effective, positive interactions with staff, parents, and children.

** Physical Requirements**

• Prolonged periods standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
