    The Special Education Assistant at New Leader Academy supports daily school operations, ensuring an organized and productive learning environment. Responsibilities include managing equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and providing additional support to teachers, therapists, and students. The role requires flexibility and adaptability to handle various tasks beyond the primary responsibilities to meet the diverse needs of the school, fostering a positive atmosphere for student engagement and success.

    Key Responsibilities and Job Tasks

    Equipment Management: Organize and maintain school equipment, ensuring correct storage and setup for classroom activities or therapy sessions. Clean and store equipment after use, maintaining neat and ready areas for future activities.

    School Organization: Keep school areas clean, organized, and safe throughout the day, assisting with general cleaning tasks to ensure a hygienic learning environment.

    Assisting Staff: Support teachers during classroom activities and assist therapists by setting up and taking down equipment efficiently. Help prepare and distribute educational materials as needed.

    Data Collection and Recording: Collect and record basic data related to student activities and progress as directed. Maintain accurate records of daily activities and observations.

    Student Support: Provide one-on-one support during classroom activities and therapy sessions, assisting students with special needs by following their routines and engaging them in various tasks. Participate in activities such as arts and crafts, music, and movement.

    Working with Students: Engage in activities with students, including playing, arts and crafts, and music, under teacher guidance. Support students in using technology with provided training.

    School Setup: Assist in setting up the school’s physical environment, organizing and arranging equipment to create a well-organized and functional space for learning.

    Communication: Communicate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to ensure smooth operations, and report any student concerns or observations to the appropriate staff member.

    Supervision and Safety: Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch, recess, and transitions, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

    Support School Operations: As part of a new and evolving school, staff members may be required to take on additional roles as necessary to support various aspects of the school’s operations.

    Qualifications

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: Experience in a school setting or working with special needs children is preferred.

    Desirable Attributes: Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. Flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be physically active due to the school's emphasis on movement, music, and dynamic learning activities.

    Ability to assist with equipment setup and student movement.

    Ability to perform a variety of tasks, such as lifting and moving light equipment.
