    Youth Specialist SPECTRUM JUVENILE JUSTICE SERVICES 32 reviews - Highland Park, MI $10.50 - $13.00 an hour GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises, directs, and provides a safe and secure environment conducive to the treatment tasking, personal development, and welfare of the delinquent youth in residence (maximum security detention facility) as required by the State of Michigan laws, Child Welfare Licensing requirements and applicable standards as found in the SJJS Program and Procedures Manuals and Spectrums Policies and Procedures. This is an entry-level position that reports directly to a shift supervisor; workers may be assigned to any shift and any schedule at the agency's discretion, including mandatory overtime . This position is directly responsible for the daily supervision, safety, security, welfare and progress of the residents in care. It is a group work oriented position. The employee in this position must be able to operate in a maximum security facility with delinquent youth who are a security and safety risk. This position must be able to support all components of the program such as clinical, treatment, medical and educational aspects that include but are not limited to: working with teachers, program caseworkers, volunteers, parents, state and court officials, and referring caseworkers, as well as community and business representatives. * QUALIFICATIONS: * Education, Age, Experience: Minimum requirements : * High School Diploma * Minimum age of 21 * Prior youth supervisory experience; or two years of college (Associates Degree) * Advanced education will provide additional compensation. * Desired education : Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Education or related field. B. General Requirements: * Must possess a valid and unrestricted State of Michigan Drivers License; * Must complete and return a record of no findings on the DHS Central Registry Clearance; * Must have a criminal history background check free of felony convictions; * Must pass a physical examination which indicates satisfactory health status and must be free from communicable diseases including TB. * Must have reliable transportation and a home phone or cell phone; and be able to accommodate mandatory overtime policy ; * Physical ability to actively supervise and participate in youth activities and restraint.
