    The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates patients, plan and implement specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of Speech Language Pathology. The Speech language Pathologist demonstrates proficient clinical knowledge and skills in delivering care to assigned age specific patient populations within an interdisciplinary team environment. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

    Education – Successful completion of an accredited CCC-SLP

    1. Experience – Two years of experience in an acute care setting preferred with a critical care population.

    2. Licensure – Active State Speech Language Pathologist license

    3. Certifications – BLS required

    Please note if census is low or if we encounter coverage issues due to calls, therapists are expected to assist in any area where there is a need. They will be notified head of time or early in the morning at the latest.

    Minimum experience 2 year for SLP and in good standing. For licensing details, please refer to the job description. However, it's important to note that we are not considering anyone who requires co-signatures such as a CFY. Additionally, for SLPs, they must be able to perform Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS), PMV protocols, and should be familiar and competent with tracheostomy and ventilated patients.

    Functions:

     Demonstrates an appropriate level of clinical skill, as evidenced by completion of comprehensive and insightful evaluations and the development of individualized and effective treatment plans, designed to achieve precise, functional goals.

     Perform patient care at the highest level in variable hospital settings- Outpatient, Inpatient, Subacute, in all Pipeline Health Hospitals.

     Evaluates patient’s condition to diagnose and treat articulation, cognitive-communication fluency, language, resonance, swallowing and voice disorders.

     Uses excellent communication skills to educate patients and engage them in their own care.   Communicate/collaborate with other disciplines, patients, and their family. The Speech Language Pathologist is also responsible in supervising Speech Language Pathology students and fellow.

     Makes appropriate discharge recommendations the multidisciplinary team and coordinates the follow-up with vendors or other ancillary support personnel on any outstanding orders to ensure patient safety.

     Conferences with Providers and other allied health professionals to make recommendations for occupational therapy treatment programs.

     Attends and participates in department and multi-disciplinary meetings on regularly scheduled days and checks meeting minutes if unable to attend.

     Able to safely and appropriately delegate and follow-up patient cases to aide, students, and Restorative Nursing Assistant/RNA

     Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.  Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.  Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.  Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.

     Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.  Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.  Completes and attends monthly training assigned.  Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATION:

    Experience:  At least 1 year of current experience in an acute care setting.  Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.

     A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.

    Education:  Master’s degree or equivalent, CCC from ASHA

    Licensure/Certifications:

     Current California Speech Language Pathologist License or board exam eligibility

     BLS
