Sprinkler Technicians work specifically in fire protection installation and repair of sprinkler and hose systems, fire mains, underground systems, and underground closed valves. They inspect and test systems, repair defective, worn, or broken parts, and perform National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) inspections and testing on existing systems or new installations. Sprinkler Technicians create, maintain, inspect, and modify new or current sprinkler systems within homes, commercial buildings, and other areas where sprinkler systems are necessary.
Duties include:
- Selecting pipe sizes and materials, measuring and marking pipes for cutting and threading, assembling and securing pipes, tubes, and fittings.
- Turning off existing systems to secure new pipes, welding and soldering pipes to create joints, and attaching pipes to fixtures.
- Servicing and troubleshooting wet/dry systems, fire pump-based fire sprinkler systems, and backflows, including repair and internal inspections of systems.
- Creating layout drawings of full-scale piping systems, cutting and boring holes in pipes according to blueprints and specifications.
- Cleaning and modifying current sprinkler systems.
- Troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of practical engineering applications.
- Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards and plumbing codes and standards.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Backflow License preferred.
- NICET certification is a plus.
- 3-5 years of industry experience.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Consent for background screening upon hire.
- Capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools of more than 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in somewhat difficult positions like climbing ladders, using high lift equipment, working in crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
