Job Description
The Sr. Manager, Entertainment Costuming is responsible for providing support, direction and assistance to the Entertainment Costume Operations and Costume Fabrication teams. This includes overseeing and managing the staff and the day to day costume operations of multiple venues and/or areas as well as the fabrication and repair of costumes. Partner with the Entertainment Production team on the development of new costumes for marquee events, new character development, design intent changes and special projects. Ensure that the condition of all elements is of high quality and that quantity needs are met. Liaison with Intellectual Property holders, vendors and internal partners on all issues related to Entertainment Costuming. Promotes positive guest and employee experiences by ensuring that all areas and aspects of the business are running at the optimum performance level. Ensure that the Universal Studios Hollywood vision, mission & values, and Guest Service Philosophy & Standards are understood and supported across the organization and partners closely with Costume Production.
Job Duties

Oversee the daily operation of the Costume Areas, including managing staff and process/procedures, and providing necessary direction and/or support for Guests, Team Members and operations.
Lead Managers and Supervisors in Entertainment Costuming, including assignment and delegation of tasks, projects and duties and provide expectations, ongoing development and process improvement.
Create, implement and manage an on-going Action Plan to improve and maintain Team Member engagement and satisfaction including training programs, workforce planning, and rewards and recognition programs driving the department’s future success (TSAT).
Oversee and manage labor and non-labor budgets, including reporting variance explanations. Work with senior leadership to adjust budgets (and appropriate tracking documents) based upon operational requirements. Plan and develop operating budget (IOP) and capital expenditures for following fiscal year.
Oversee the operational efficiency and effectiveness of administration, venue/show/shop, area and/or elements. Resolve any issues as they arise and seek opportunities to improve process and procedures collaborating with stakeholders, Team Members, etc. as appropriate.
Provide direction, development and support to supervisors, leads and hourly employees. Communicate feedback and address any and all performance issues, providing recognition, coaching and/or discipline when appropriate and completing employee evaluations annually. Oversee department staffing levels and assist in hiring, training and development of staff.
Monitor and track overall labor/training/non-labor budgets, correct as needed and provide and regular reports/updates to Director/VP. Responsible for order/purchase approvals, tracking and reconciliation. Partner with and support multiple areas, venues and client groups with regards to budgetary issues.
Responsible to ensure an annual updated and accurate SOP/GOP available to all Team Members. Ensure that all compliance training/requirements for appropriate area/element is developed, updated and completed in accordance with annual plan and deadlines.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with other park department leaders and stakeholders.
Oversee and manage costume inventories and request orders as needed.
Have knowledge and maintain all show quality across all entertainment products and communicate any concerns or feedback to the appropriate stakeholder(s), including Show Quality Team.
Manage the development, creation and installation of new entertainment costumes/projects and events, as needed.
Ensure that collective bargaining agreements are upheld by partnering with Human Resources and Labor Relations in providing input, addressing issues and maintaining positive union relationships. Ensure that discipline is applied in accordance with company procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health and Safety responsibilities by following established USH policy, procedures, training, and employee involvement activities. Includes completion of I&I, housekeeping and/or other safety follow-up documentation as required for department.
Periodically represent the Entertainment Department as the Manager on Duty (Entertainment 1) for a specific operating day. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, addressing both guest and employee concerns, problem solving issues involving entertainment elements (personnel and/or technical) and communicating effectively with employees and senior management. Provide additional support for special events and projects, including auditions, rehearsals and venue/area supervision, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years in a Costume Department or equivalent.
Experience in costume technology, maintenance, care and operations.
Managerial or supervisory experience of multiple departments and personnel.
Must be available to work on weekends, holidays and nights as required.
Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walking/traveling to multiple venues throughout the day.
Ability to read, interpret and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and answer questions in one-on-one and group settings.
Experience managing a union environment.
Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
Strong time management skills.
Demonstrates ability to work independently under pressure; proactive thinker/self starter.
