About the Role:
The Senior Property Accountant will play a crucial role in managing the financial health of a portfolio of properties. This position requires a strong understanding of property accounting principles and practices, as well as the ability to analyze financial data and provide insightful reports. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the full accounting cycle for assigned properties, including rent collection, expense tracking, accounts payable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of property budgets, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and other financial analyses.
- Manage property tax assessments and work with external consultants as needed.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
- Collaborate with property managers, asset managers, and other team members to ensure accurate financial reporting and efficient operations.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting procedures.
- Stay up-to-date on current accounting regulations and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in property accounting, preferably with multi-family properties.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and property accounting principles.
- Proficiency in property management software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
