Job Summary: The Senior Tool Designer is responsible for creating innovative and efficient tooling designs for manufacturing processes. This role requires extensive experience in Solidworks, a strong background in sheet metal forming, and expertise in punch press die and hydro form tooling design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Study and interpret specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and manufacturing data to develop effective tool configurations.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to address design challenges related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
- Utilize algebraic and geometric formulas along with standard tool engineering concepts in the development of tooling.
- Design, develop, and deploy manufacturing tools and fixtures, ensuring they meet production requirements.
- Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) effectively to tool designs.
- Handle all New Product Introduction (NPI) phases, ensuring successful transfer to production.
- Plan and execute manufacturing process projects, including the creation of BOMs (Bill of Materials) and routers.
- Collect and analyze process data to improve tooling and manufacturing processes.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a certified journeyman tool maker.
- A minimum of five years of hands-on tooling experience, specifically in sheet metal forming.
- Proficiency in Solidworks is required; experience with similar CAD software is a plus.
- Strong background in punch press die design and hydro form tooling design is required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Familiarity with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of rapid tool prototyping is a plus.
