Position Overview: We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer / Project Manager to lead and coordinate a variety of engineering design services focused on hydrology, hydraulics, drainage, stormwater management, water quality retrofits, and stream restoration or mitigation efforts.
This role involves managing feasibility studies, preparing detailed design plans and construction documentation, supporting project permitting, and overseeing construction-phase services. The engineer will contribute technical expertise on large watershed studies or multiple smaller-scale projects with complex drainage systems.
The ideal candidate will apply both standard and advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling techniques, ensure compliance with municipal and federal regulations, and engage effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. Strong communication skills and a commitment to technical excellence are essential—along with a desire for career growth into senior project management roles.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage mid-sized to large-scale stormwater and water resources projects, including scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and quality assurance.
Lead or support engineering analysis on watershed and stormwater projects of varying complexity
Collaborate with internal teams to develop detailed hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) models and prepare accompanying technical reports
Apply both standard and advanced modeling methods and engineering principles across various water resources disciplines
Engage with internal and external stakeholders, requiring clear and professional communication skills
Assist in the preparation of construction cost estimates, design drawings, and technical specifications
Mentor junior staff and support training efforts across the team
Qualifications – Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with ability to obtain reciprocity in the state of Texas
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) not required but highly desirable
Qualifications – Experience & Skills:
Demonstrated ability to manage projects or task orders, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Minimum of 7+ years of professional experience performing H&H modeling, stormwater detention design, FEMA LOMCs, and floodplain mitigation planning
Hands-on proficiency with some or all of the following models: HEC-RAS (steady, unsteady, and/or 2D), HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, XP-SWMM, and/or ICPR4 (Stormwise)
Experience with the application of GIS in H&H modeling
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to clients and stakeholders.
Experience with local, state, or federal clients and knowledge of applicable regulations and permitting processes
Proven ability to develop strong client and team relationships
Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Water Resources Team Lead and offers clear opportunities for career advancement into Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager positions.
