Staff Accountant – Real Estate Investment Firm
Our client is a third-generation, family-owned real estate firm with a rich history spanning over 100 years. Specializing in apartment ownership and management across the United States, they are committed to building vibrant communities, delivering exceptional service to residents, and providing stable investment opportunities for stakeholders. Since their first apartment community acquisition in 1990, they have expanded to own and operate over 60 communities, totaling more than 19,400 units nationwide.
They are seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team and contribute to the financial success of their portfolio. This hybrid role is based at our corporate headquarters near Wheeling, IL, with in-office collaboration required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting functions for a portfolio of properties, funds, and corporate entities.
- Prepare financial statements, reconcile accounts, and analyze property-level performance returns.
- Execute cash transactions, including capital calls, investor distributions, and property acquisitions/sales.
- Post journal entries and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and respond to investor inquiries.
- Reconcile bank accounts and update investor information for accurate reporting.
- Support external audits and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with property personnel and corporate teams to address operational needs.
- Assist with acquisition/disposition transactions and Yardi system setup.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in real estate accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Yardi is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Solution-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
