Position Summary:
The Sanford Housing Authority is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance Department. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for protecting the assets of the Agency and performing all financial functions required for the successful administration of all funds received by the Agency in accordance with HUD and GAAP regulations. This role includes conducting monthly bank reconciliations, preparing HUD subsidy drawdowns, calculating monthly assets, bookkeeping, and property management fees, and preparing various financial reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience : Minimum of four (4) years of experience in public housing, nonprofit housing, private-sector housing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
*Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered or substituted in place of the education & experience requirements stated above.
__ Other Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills: To be optimally successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Strong knowledge of State General Statutes, HUD Financial Accounting and Budgeting Requirements, and GAAP.
Ability to perform financial analysis and prepare tax reports and financial statements.
Proficiency in computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and general office machines.
Advanced ability to read and understand technical literature, financial reports, and legal documents.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and proofreading skills.
Sensitivity to and experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and external partners.
Must possess the following required certifications, or be willing to obtain these certifications within the first year of employment:
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license with a good driving record.
Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, including criminal history and drug screening.
Availability for occasional overnight travel and weekend work.
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude with all stakeholders.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate reliability through punctuality and consistent attendance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform physical tasks, such as bending, stooping, and lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance.
