We have an immediate opening for an Aviation Sustainability Consultant (Staff Consultant) with a focus on electrification in a hybrid work setting in Burlington, MA, or one of our other six office locations nationwide. A remote position in the United States is also available.
This exciting position will support our growing transportation planning and environmental practice, with an emphasis on aviation and electrification strategies. Since our founding in 1981, HMMH has addressed environmental issues at airports and delivered expert assistance to more than 200 airports worldwide. Our Aviation Environmental & Sustainability Group analyzes, evaluates, and develops solutions for challenging environmental sustainability issues, with a particular focus on electrification master planning, zero-emission pathways, carbon management, and sustainable infrastructure. We prepare noise and air quality studies, develop sustainability and climate action plans, evaluate and mitigate environmental impacts, contribute to environmental documentation, engage stakeholders, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Position Responsibilities:
- Conduct analysis and develop electrification strategies to support clients’ sustainability goals, including zero-emission pathways and infrastructure planning.
- Assist in creating electrification master plans for airports, focusing on integrating electric vehicles, ground support equipment, and charging infrastructure.
- Model energy demands, assess carbon reduction potential, and develop inventories related to electrification initiatives.
- Prepare polished technical reports and presentations on electrification and sustainability topics for non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality, technically sound documentation with minimal oversight, meeting deadlines and client commitments.
- Engage with stakeholders to solicit input on electrification goals and sustainable infrastructure initiatives.
- Contribute to proposals for electrification projects and climate resiliency efforts.
- Research the latest electrification technologies and practices in aviation to inform innovative, practical solutions.
- Specific assignments may include assisting in designing an airport electrification master plan, analyzing energy needs for electric aircraft operations, researching emerging electric technologies, supporting zero-carbon plans, or planning and participating in public workshops.

Minimum Requirements :
- BS in environmental sciences, engineering, electrical engineering, data science, sustainability, or a related technical field.
- 2-6 years of relevant experience in electrification, sustainability, or environmental consulting.
- Proficiency in relevant technical skills (e.g., electrification planning, energy modeling, carbon accounting) and computer programs (e.g., Excel, Python, SQL, Tableau, or ACERT) as determined by supervisor.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with an ability to handle complex data sets related to energy and emissions.
- Creative thinker with solid writing skills and intellectual curiosity for research.
- Collaborative team player who is also comfortable working independently with minimal oversight.
- Interest in traveling to work in-person with clients (travel increases with experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GIS for electrification data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
- Familiarity with aviation-specific electrification technologies (e.g., APUs, electric vehicle infrastructure, battery systems).
- Personal interest in aviation, transportation, or sustainable energy solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to train junior staff and contribute to proposals with guidance.
