In addition to the civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers at RH2, this position will work with a small team of licensed geologists, hydrogeologists, and engineering geologists. The successful candidate will receive mentoring and on-the-job training related to assisting clients in Washington state, and potentially Oregon and Idaho, with respect to their water rights.
Water rights work often includes document review, review of applicable laws, rules, and case law, site visits, interviews, aerial photo interpretation, hydrology or hydrogeologic analysis, and report preparation. While the position is primarily focused on hydrogeology and water rights, there will be opportunities to expand into other areas of interest, such as general geology, engineering geology and construction inspection.
With your skills you will:
- Obtain and review publicly available information (including but not limited to USGS reports, water well reports, geologic maps, and consultant reports) to develop conceptual models for the hydrogeology of an area of interest.
- Interpret available information for creation of hydrogeologic cross sections, potentiometric surfaces, and aquifer spatial extents.
- Identification of preferred drilling locations and depths for proposed production wells.
- Drafting specifications for well drilling and aquifer testing.
- Observation and documentation of well drilling, including identification of preferred well completion depth, and well screen design.
- Planning and executing aquifer testing to capture data necessary to calculate aquifer properties such as hydraulic conductivity, transmissivity, and storativity.
- Collection of water quality samples for both field and laboratory analysis.
- Analyzing data to calculate aquifer properties.
- Identification and characterization of hydrogeologic systems, including logging test pits, borings, and drill cuttings.
- Evaluating aquifer and streamflow properties, even with incomplete information.
- Calculating interference drawdown impacts on nearby wells and/or anticipated streamflow reduction based on proposed or recently drilled wells.
- Preparation of technical memoranda and reports documenting geologic and hydrogeologic information, analysis, and conclusions.
- Willingness to be trained in Washington water law, including how to obtain water right records, water right interpretation and documentation, preparation of water right applications, and processing of water right applications (changes and new) for both surface and groundwater rights.
