Job Description

I’m seeking an Executive Assistant. I’m the CEO of a tiny, stealth fintech startup. We just raised money and are trying to grow our team, acquire clients, and market ourselves. It feels pretty crazy around here and I need some help with the basics of both running this company and my personal life. The role is mostly remote but I will need some help on-site each week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• In-depth research projects on our industry, potential clients, or potential hires.
• Help manage and schedule meetings, travel, and virtual events.
• Help me with miscellaneous errands, tasks, projects.
• Special projects related to my job (CEO) or my co-founder and friend (CTO).
• Help track internal operations, tasks, deadlines.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR:

• 5+ years of experience in a similar role at a tech startup
• Experience working with latest generation software and ease learning new tools
• Relentless focus on problem solving and overcoming obstacles
• A desire to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility
• Located in Austin Texas
• Bachelor's degree required

TIME AND LOCATION:

• 80% remote from your home office or coworking.
• 20% onsite in South Austin at my home office, meetings, or errands.
• Responsiveness during normal business hours but overall flexibility on hours.
• Optional: I’m open to starting this role with a part-time contractor. I think the job can maybe be accomplished in less than 40 hours and it gives us both a chance to evaluate working together. The more amazing you are at the role, the more likely a part-time option could be a permanent option if you desire.

OTHER THOUGHTS ON THE ROLE:

• Most of these EA job descriptions are weirdly bureaucratic and full of tedium. That is not us. We do not care about titles or formality. In our company all that counts is the problems you can solve and the results you achieve.
• I would love to say that the role is purely interesting research projects. It partially will be. It will also include “help the CEO keep his life from imploding” tasks, such as errands. What I can promise: If you invest in me by helping me on these small things, so I can get my time back, I’ll invest in you, whatever your goals may be.
• As I mentioned we just raised money and the company is a couple months old. Most of our systems and processes don’t exist yet. You can help navigate that complexity and set up these systems. For this role to be a good fit you’ll need to see this challenge as exciting and a chance to learn vs. a burden.
• We haven’t launched yet and we deal with sensitive financial data and deals. I would like to keep the company name and website private in this post. Rest assured we are just a normal tech startup doing software stuff and I’m happy to explain all of that in the interviews.
