    Job Description

    The main functions of this job are to manage, supervise, and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Stewarding department in an effective and efficient way. The Assistant Manager of Stewarding is expected to maintain the smooth operations of the stewarding department and maximize labor efficiency, maintain budgeted labor costs, guarantee safe working conditions, and keep the highest standards of sanitation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to:

    • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner and ensure stewards are doing the same, providing feedback and training as needed.
    • Comply at all times with Fairmont standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations and provide input regarding improvement of such operations.
    • Schedule supervisors and stewards to meet labor standards, and assign breaks.
    • Ensure accurate payroll process completed bi-weekly, comment and approve on timecard edits.
    • Assist with the management of the 3rd party night cleaning company.
    • Assist in training all stewarding team members to perform duties above standards
    • Supervise and maintain the sanitation of kitchen, storerooms, hallways, dock and equipment by creating systems for proper maintenance and training relevant employees regarding the same.
    • Assist in the compliance with Health Department standards as well as internal audits such as TEHC.
    • Work with the Chef, F&B Director, Catering team and Banquets team to anticipate equipment needs and ensure all necessary equipment is ordered and available as needed.
    • Ensure assistance is provided for all Banquet functions
    • Must know and be able to assist with all supervisor and steward duties
    • Order and control inventory of all cleaning compounds
    • Take physical inventories of China, glass, silver, paper and cleaning supplies and determine when additional inventory must be ordered.
    • Attend meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among company employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency. Create goals and initiatives to be discussed and evaluated during these meetings.
    • Assist in leading talent management initiatives including reviews, coaching, counseling, training, and disciplinary actions.
    • Participate in all recruitment initiatives and talent selection for the department. Provide input as to hiring decisions and termination decisions.
    • Promote positive and engaging work environment for the entire Stewarding department by creating regular initiatives to increase employee engagement score and sentiment.
    • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform, and PPE.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma required
    • 1-year leadership experience in Stewarding or related department required
    • At least two years of experience in a hotel or related field required.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
    • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
    • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
    • Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
    • Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
    • Must be effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
    • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by coworkers and guests.
    • Must be able to work various shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
