    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
    This position reports directly to the Plant Supervisor.

    PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE:
    Under general supervision, performs preventative maintenance and maintains and repairs plant equipment, facility and grounds and other plant relative activities

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform preventative or corrective maintenance action for all equipment, facilities and grounds, as necessary.
    • Troubleshoot, repair all plant equipment and complete projects, utilizing the following skills or knowledge: 3-phase electrical, machinery, mechanical, sheet metal fabrication, welding, plumbing, hydraulic, pneumatic, hot water and soft water systems, fire protection, construction and modification, carpentry, and other areas a required.
    • Maintain and purchase inventory of parts, tools and supplies, ensure upkeep of the maintenance area, and take responsibility for maintenance equipment within the facility.
    • Follow safe work practices and procedures at all times, including safe lifting and completion & cleanup of all projects, lock and tag out, confines space, spill control, OSHA, proper use of chemical and tools.
    • Perform upkeep in the following areas, as required: grounds cleanup, snow removal, lawn and outdoor care, painting, lighting repair and replacement, furniture, building, and roof repair, production or production support equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and repair all manufacturing, packaging and warehousing machinery.
    • Have basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and mechanics.
    • Participate in designing and developing in-house projects that improve productivity, meet regulations, enhance quality or improve safety.
    • Maintain all maintenance records for all equipment installations, repairs, and preventative maintenance schedules.
    • Perform duties with feed production and driving forklift as required by the plant supervisor
    • Perform other work-related duties as requested or required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Be able to succeed within and adhere to the culture of the Furst-McNess Company.
    • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
    • Education equivalent to high school diploma, along with having additional training in welding, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning installation and repair and two years of maintenance mechanic experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Ability to read, write, and speak English and perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to read blueprints and electrical and pneumatic schematics.
    • Ability to ascend ladders and various heights using stairs, elevated walkways and/or elevators.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or stoop up to 70 lbs. of material on a regular or continuous basis.
    • Ability to maneuver heavy loads (up to 2,000 lbs. pallets) with a pallet jack; safely operate all equipment along with being a certified forklift operator.
    • Ability to perform cleaning operations while exposed to dusty environment, and ability to wear/use all appropriate protective equipment.
    • Ability to vary work schedule as necessary, depending on weather, departmental, or production needs.
    • Ability to work independently. Ability effectively communicate machine or building problem areas to supervisors or co-workers as necessary.
    • Ability to learn and comply with GMP and regulatory requirements imposed on manufacturing facilities by the FDA, OSHA and EPA in regard to manufacturing of food and drug products.
    • Good communication skills, both oral and written, and is capable of utilizing these skills within all levels of the Company as well as externally.
    • Ability to provide outstanding customer service to all associates and management staff, showing a sense of urgency relative to solving problems, performing assigned tasks, employee concerns, etc.
    • Ability to effectively organize work schedules and manage multiple assignments by utilizing time management skills to ensure day-to-day assignments and special projects are completed within guidelines agreed upon.
    • Ability to work as an effective team member within the plant and company, as a whole. Willingness to pitch in and do work that may not be a specific part of the job description for the overall good of the department and company.
