    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer Intern to support the AECOM Water, Structures Department in our Albuquerque, NM office. AECOM is searching for candidates who can be a role model, client-focused, impactful, and decisive.

    Entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM's Graduate Development Program (GDP), a program designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and create a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

    This position is expected to begin in Jan or June 2025.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Performing assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to build analytic and design skills and further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
    • Performing assignments related to the design, analysis, rehabilitation, and inspection of Water infrastructure and ancillary structures.
    • Using computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
    • Exercising judgment limited to developing work details in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
    • Preparing engineering-related designs, calculations, sketches, visual aids, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
    • Performing work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering with the intent to continue after the internship unless graduating.

    • Candidates must have completed three years of study in their program.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).
    • Academic track with a structural engineering concentration is highly desirable.
    • 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in the execution of structural design projects is a plus.
    • Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software. Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position. (examples include software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD, and MathCad).
    • Experience or education in reinforced concrete and steel design.
    • Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License is required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
