    Complete Description:

    **Local Richmond, VA candidates required due to onsite requirement **Candidates must possess a clean driving record (this will be verified) as their job involves field work within the state of VA, driving either a leased or a state vehicle **Candidates must maintain insurance coverage during this engagement (this will be verified) **Candidate must be able to pay for room/board while travelling - to be reimbursed by VDOT. Gas card provided for gas only **Travel may include some overnights, with notice **ONSITE interviews strongly preferred

    VDOT’s Information Technology Division is seeking an IT professional to provide network services;

    • Troubleshooting

    • Monitoring

    • Engineering

    • Cabling (Data/Voice)

    • Evaluating performance

    • Optimizing system performance

    for the Information Technology department. Which at times, may require statewide travel with an occasional overnight stay to perform work.

    The selected candidate will design, direct, review, implement, improve, engineer, and cable (network/voice). The selected candidate will work with vendors to develop and implement solutions, develop policies and guidelines, troubleshoot major/minor network failures, analyze network capacity, manage vendor relationships, support agreements, and validate network billing related to all aspects of the network based on Network and Telecommunications standards and best practices.

    Experience in network engineering to include analysis of network requirements, performance for a large-scale network. Experience in data and telecommunications to include installing, testing, and inspecting deployed data communications systems. Experience installing, migrating, and supporting critical, multi-site networks a plus.

    The selected candidate will coordinate and interact with multiple vendors for problem resolution and diagnosing networking issues. Knowledge of wireline and wireless communications technologies and standards, including fiber optics, T1, DS-3, MPLS, cellular / 5G, CDMA, TDMA, VoIP, TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, IP networking concepts (subnetting, routing).

    The selected candidate will manage all phases of network installation and administration; to research and document communications technologies, topologies, and trends. The selected candidate should be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers. Proficiency using MS Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. With an excellent working knowledge of LAN, WAN, WAP, Cradle Point / NetCloud, and cabling standards.
