    Student Health Technician (CNA)

    Location: Washington, DC

    We're currently seeking a Student Health Technician to carry out designated responsibilities under the guidance of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. As an integral part of the healthcare team, you'll contribute to various student services following the initial assessment and development of nursing care plans by the registered nurse. Your duties may encompass screening procedures like height and weight measurements, as well as vision and hearing tests. Additionally, you'll be responsible for obtaining, recording, and monitoring vital signs, promptly reporting any deviations from the norm to the relevant personnel. This role involves rotation between assigned DCPS schools.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Work Experience

    2 years Related clinical nursing experience in a comparable setting

    Health care experience in a community health, ambulatory care, inpatient or school health setting.

    Experience in the care of school-aged children - preferred

    1 year Pediatrics experience - preferred

    Required Certifications

    Certification in Nurse Aid

    Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association)

    First Aid (American Heart Association)

    Duties

    Contribute to the development of the individualized plan of care.

    Assist with the implementation of the individualized plan of care utilizing appropriate resources as needed.

    Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in the school setting, as appropriate.

    Document according to school health policies and procedures (e.g., UHC, OHA, screenings, parent/guardian notifications).

    Administer first aid, medications, and federal and district mandated screenings (e.g., hearing, vision, height/weight).

    Obtain vital signs, including recording and monitoring, and recognize abnormal ranges.

    Assist the nurse or student in providing specialized treatments.

    Maintain inventory of school health and first aid supplies.

    Proactively communicate with parents, students, and/or other agencies to promote needed documents and/or treatments.

    Ensure proper immunization history and verification of immunizations.

    Monitor students referred for illness to ensure their safety and welfare.

    Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, injury-related accidents) to maintain student personal safety.

    Respond to emergencies to determine and implement appropriate actions required to maintain the health and safety of students.

    Perform other related duties as assigned.
