    SUMMARY:

    The Wooden Floor’s mission is to inspire and transform the lives of young people through the power of dance and access to higher education. Our Student Support Services Department is a key part of this mission, providing continuous supervision and tailored support to students at our Main Street and Depot at Santiago locations. We believe in nurturing relationships and fostering a supportive, growth-oriented environment for both students and staff.

    As a Student Support Services Mentor at The Wooden Floor, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of our students. You will work collaboratively within our program, focusing on personalized support that meets the unique needs of each student. Your ability to communicate effectively, listen actively, and maintain a positive demeanor will be crucial to your success. Proactive and dependability are essential in this role to ensure that all students receive the attention and guidance they deserve.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Build and maintain positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported.

    · Provide consistent supervision and encourage active participation in dance classes and other activities.

    · Balance enforcing rules with creating a fun and respectful environment.

    · Act as a mentor and role model, inspiring trust and confidence in students.

    · Use positive reinforcement and strategies to address and correct challenging behaviors.

    · Facilitate connections between students and academic resources, helping them access tutoring and educational services as needed.

    · Ensure reliability, punctuality, appropriate dress, speech, and attitude, reinforcing the values of Respect, Stewardship, Community, and Excellence.

    · Promote a safe learning environment by adhering to safety protocols.

    · Be proactive in identifying and addressing students’ needs and challenges, maintaining engagement even during quieter periods.

    · Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    · Be willing to work at both the Main Street and Depot at Santiago locations.

    · Assist with the execution of special events and activities as requested.

    · Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of all programs and services offered by The Wooden Floor.

    · Provide coverage for the front desk on an as-needed basis to support daily operations and ensure seamless service delivery. Flexibility in taking on multiple roles is essential to meet the organization's needs.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    · Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, humanities, or related fields preferred.

    · Two-year associate degree in social sciences, education, humanities, or related fields in process.

    · Some experience working with children in after-school programs, social services, recreation, or arts organizations is a plus.

    · Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

    COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

    · Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    · Ability to maintain and update electronic and paper student records.

    PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    · Occasionally bend, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, handle objects, push/pull, and reach above shoulder level.

    · Frequently sit, walk, and use fine finger movements.

    · Occasionally lift and carry loads up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift loads between 25-50 pounds.

    OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to pass a criminal background check.

    Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a clean driving record.

    Assist with the execution of special events and activities as requested.
