Substance Abuse Counselor (Evening and Weekends)
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Agency is seeking knowledgeable, motivated, and reliable, candidates to fill vacant positions as a Substance Abuse Counselor to facilitate group therapy sessions for our Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Program. Ideal candidate will facilitate daily substance use education, relapse prevention, and other psychoeducational groups, provide individual counseling services to clients receiving treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders, record daily progress notes for each encounter with clients, utilize assessment and interview skills to determine appropriate treatment plan and protocol, complete clinical/biopsychosocial assessments, conducts regular and random urine drug screening of patients, makes recommendations, following the assessment, for the individual’s care, giving consideration to the appropriate and least intensive level of care warranted, develops & implements person-centered treatment plans that reflect the identified needs of the individual assessed, provides crisis counseling as needed, performs other work-related projects as assigned. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of: · Theory and practice of individual, group and family counseling as pertaining to those with mental health and substance use disorders. · ASAM CRITERIA · DSM 5 diagnostic criteria. · Ethical issues concerning dual relationships, confidentiality, and other legal/ethical issues (i.e. life-threatening situations, mandated reporting of protected populations). · Various Substance Use inventories/assessments · Motivational Interviewing techniques, relapse prevention, and 12 Steps · Care Coordination for Substance Use EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in human services field with CSAC certification. Masters Degree with active license to practice in Virginia (LPC, LCSW, or other LMHP) Preferred. License eligible may be considered.
